Open defecation is the human practice of defecating outside (in the open environment) rather than into a toilet. People may choose fields, bushes, forests, ditches, streets, canals or other open space for defecation. They do so because either they do not have a toilet. The practice is common where wastes disposal infrastructure and services are not available. Even if toilets are available, efforts may still be needed to promote the use of toilets.
About 892 million people, or 12 percent of the global population, practiced open defecation in 2016.Seventy-six percent (678 million) of the 892 million people practicing open defecation in the world live in just seven countries.
Open defecation can pollute the environment and cause health problems, like :
-cholera,
-dysentary
-dirrhoea
-Polio
-hepatitis A
-typhoid
-Schistosomiasis/bilharzia
-trachoma
-malnutrition
-intestinal worm
High levels of open defecation are key to
*high child mortality,
*poor nutrition,
* poverty, and
* large disparities between rich and poor.
Actually,I believed that the solution to open defecation requires the involvement of individuals, house holds and government. The government should do the best it can in the provision of adequate toilets and water, there is also a need for education and awareness to correct some negative norms and beliefs of the people.
Its happen to be a common thing to find human faeces around the public areas, even in the cities across the country,as such there is need for a strong penalty on any body fought defecating in an open spaces.
Unarguably, adequate sanitation with good hygiene and safe /clean water are fundamental to good health, social and even economical development.
Note:to my awareness there no religion in the world that teaches poeaple to pollute their environment, like in Islam its forbidden to defecate by the road, canals(water bodies),or in pubic.
Say no to this inhuman practice.
